Youth is defined by various people in various context. The African definition of youth is any young person between the age of 18 to 35 years. Internationally youth have been coordinated through the International Youth Climate Movement (IYCM/YOUNGO) but at national level governments have developed junior negotiators programmes to include young people.

While there is no yet globally agreed definition of climate finance as per the discussion on standing committee on finance, climate finance definition can be drawn from 1992 Rio earth summit definition of environmental finance where international bodies are to mobilize 40% of financing to address environmental impacts and nations are to mobilize the remaining 60%

Histrocically, climate finance discussions have been left to governments with ministries of finance taking lead. Access to existing funds from (GCF, GEF, AF) have been left to huge cooperations with already existing co-financing locking out vulnerable young people who are also unemployed and more vulnerable

We work side by side and follow each climate finance negotiations as they are developed. This is not limited to COP and SBs but also regional forums of the existing funds.

We are developing mechanisms and engaging with partners and stakeholders on how to create the enabling environment for young people to receive climate finance. This is at all levels, globally, regionally, nationally and locally.
